In September 2021, I began a new chapter in the city of Bristol.
After visiting for a 'lockdown holiday' I became infatuated with this vibrant city.
Bristol is (arguably) the street art capital of the world, which sounds like a bold claim until you scoot yourself down to North Street (yes, on an actual electric scooter). It's astounding what they have done with the place, effectively turning each building into an exhibition piece!

It isn't just the buildings that are teeming with art and self expression either. You'll encounter some Bristolians with refreshingly maverick style choices. So much so that my partner and I have coined the phrase "very Bristol" for when we happen upon people who dare to dress a little differently. This is the city where anything goes, and you are free to live out your unfiltered lifestyle.

So here I am, making a go of it and discovering Bristol through a paint brush. Displayed above is what I have so far, after a bit of time pushing paint around.

Ah yes, Hull, where my lucrative oil painting career set its course.

A lot of people overlook Hull, but theres a very good reason it was crowned city of culture in 2017. Sure, some of it could do with a bit of TLC, but I like the edgy and raw charm of the place.
Hull also has a lucrative street art culture with some locals really making an effort to put hull back on the map. Some big names have also graced the streets such as DANK (London based street artist) and even the big man himself, Banksy!
In essence, Hull is kind of like... a mini Bristol? Spend some time down the Avenues, in the old town pubs or down Humber street and you'll soon learn this place is a hidden gem. Hullians are (rightly so) a proud breed, and again for the same reason I love Bristolians, they aren't afraid to be themselves.

Ive been an artist of many mediums over the years, but this is where I started to learn the craft of oil painting. These works are a small collection of 8" x 8" panels, inspired by that rugged, industrial charm I speak of.
