DOUG MURRY,
BORN 1996, Preston Lanacshire
ABOUT ME
These things always feel a little awkward to write, but I guess if you've gotten this far, then I should probably tell you a bit about myself.

My life began in Preston (Lancashire), the home of Europe's second largest bus station! (its the biggest in the UK though... we'll take that). It's also home of the butter pie (better than it sounds), but we keep that delicacy just for us.

I come from a large creative family, littered with artists and musicians, which would explain my initial interest in painting, however my biggest supporter and influence was always my grandad, John Murry (aka Gus).
Gus and I would take any opportunity to sketch away the evenings together, and it's his encouragement and persistence that has, and continues to mould the art I make today. I'll be forever grateful!

More recently I have moved to the Bristol area, in the hope of building my art career in this beautiful, creative city.
All of my paintings you see here are oil based and painted in an alla prima style. Painting quickly forces me to keep my brush strokes loose... it also caters for my lack of patience!
Most of my paintings are of urban landscapes and have recently been celebrations of my favourite Bristol scenes.
I am often drawn to scenes that allow me to paint reflections, contrasting light and shade or capture the way light can bounce across a surface, whether that be a view with water or a nocturne street scene.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me and my work, I am grateful to all that have joined me on this journey and continue to enable my calling for pushing around paint.
Cheers for listening, make yourself a brew and have a nosey around!
